My paintings are foremost visual experiences, that is, temporal and provisional. they are predicated on the basic fact that every state we experience is transitory, an
“in-between” state. It seems endlessly necessary to me to resurrect and honor the un-fixyty of nature, to call to mind that every seemingly solid thing we encounter is in constant flux,
flowing and changing, coming into and going out of existence continuously. Recognizing the profound nature of impermanence, Shunryu Suzuki summarizes the aesthetic sensibility arising from this
realization, giving essential emptiness at the heart of matter a big bear hug with : “Everything is beautiful because it is falling off balance.” In other words each moment is absolute, alive
and significant, and fundamentally uncertain.
